Diagnosis
Evaluation and Testing
We classify the type of seizure your child is having in our Level 4 Pediatric EEG Laboratory. Most tests are performed on an outpatient basis at Hackensack University Medical Center and Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital; some may require a hospital stay. Technicians perform more than 4,000 pediatric EEGs each year.
Tests may include:
-
Cortical stimulation studies
-
WADA tests
Treatments
The Pediatric Epilepsy Center offers a full range of clinical programs and services, including:
-
New anti-epileptic drugs
-
Ketogenic diet
Surgical Services
When medications fail, some children are candidates for removal of the area where the seizures start. Testing allows our epilepsy team to map the region of the brain where seizures are generated and the areas of the brain where important functions reside. This allows surgery to avoid critical areas of the brain and improves safety.
The Epilepsy Center team has experience and expertise in all forms of epilepsy surgery.
