Hydrocephalus Clinic

The best care

Hydrocephalus is the most common neurological disorder in development, occurring in 1 in every 1,000 children. Hydrocephalus results from the accumulation of spinal fluid (CSF) in the brain and can lead to increased pressure. If not addressed, neurological symptoms can rapidly progress and lead to complications. As a result of its complex course and need for immediate treatment, pediatric hydrocephalus remains one of the most challenging disease for children and their families to navigate.

In order to help families obtain insight into their child’s hydrocephalus, our team, led by Dr. Tim Vogel, has established a state-of-the-art Hydrocephalus Clinic. Dr. Vogel is an international expert on research and clinical care focused on understanding the causes of pediatric and neonatal hydrocephalus. He has educated pediatricians, neurosurgeons, and researchers throughout the United States on hydrocephalus and has advocated, through his ongoing research in neural development, for novel technologies to treat children affected by this disease.

In our comprehensive clinic, Dr. Vogel offers the ability to participate in a multi-institutional HUGS study to determine what genes, if any, may have caused hydrocephalus in a family. He has partnered with this country’s leading neuro-geneticists to help better understand hydrocephalus, potentially offering insight for families. In the area of hydrocephalus, Dr. Vogel has been recognized as a distinguished researcher and clinician by the leading patient advocacy group Hydrocephalus Association and continues his national collaborations in clinical and research work.
